This is one of my cousin Candace's grandchildren (which makes her a first cousin twice removed I guess). I was immediately struck by her eyes when I met her. They seemed so ancient to me - thus the title. I created the photograph 3 years ago when we first moved here, but I was never 100% satisfied with it. I wanted to find a way to really focus attention on those eyes. When I was pondering the word "old," this photograph immediately came to mind. I reworked it until I got the effect I wanted.
